The story of the 10mm pistol cartridge is well known. At one point, the 10mm cartridge seemed to be relegated to a niche market of competitive shooters and enthusiasts.
However, a return of 10 mm was made. We've already put together a roundup of the best 10mm pistols in light of this renewed demand.
My introduction to the 10mm came through a Colt Delta Elite I bought a few years ago. Fired several thousand rounds in my local environment with solid consistency.

Most people note that the 10mm is bouncy and the Delta Elite pull aids.
Glock 40 Gen 4 MOS. The Austrian style of action is do it or leave it, but this gun packs a punch.
The Glock 40 fills an interesting niche in the shooting world, one that many Glock fans have yet to cross paths with.
Like every other Glock, it is built on the familiar polymer frame and block architecture. Like the elusive Glock 17L, the Glock 40 has a 6-inch barrel and matching long rim, which appeals to competitive shooters.
Glock Pistols Gen3 Vs Gen4. What Is The Difference Between The Generations?
It's a touch lighter than the Delta Elite at about 32 inches. But the 40 ball should still have enough weight to make the 10mm round manageable.
With a large scope radius (8.3 inches) and grip size, the Glock 40 appeals to competitive shooters. But is it the right gun for other shooters looking for something for recreation or self-defense? Can the Group of 40 be more than a nation of guns?
Everything about the Glock 40 looks like a grenade launcher. It is nearly identical in size to the mythological Glock 17L, making the Glock 40 the largest Glock in the race.
Compared to the 17L, the Glock 40 is slightly shorter. However, it has added width and weight - more beef to withstand the higher ballistic pressures of the 10mm cartridge. U
Review: Glock 40 Gen4 Mos
All of the Glock 40's controls feel like any other Glock: deliberate, purposeful, and no frills. “We added this feature to make the gun more attractive,” he said, not the Glock machine. 40 But he still bit all the Teutonic athletes, so to speak.
The Glock 17 wide duty looks positive next to the Glock 40. Big shot shooters will appreciate the Glock 40's strong grip.
The full-capacity Glock 40 shares a 15-round magazine with its shorter German counterpart, the Glock 20. 10 factory magazines are also available in states with magazine capacity restrictions.
Glock factory sightings are debated with religious fervor, highlighting legitimate views on its pros and cons. The Glock 40 I tested was equipped with the basic white contour rift that many Glocks come with.
Glock 40, The *real* Problem Solver
They worked well for my eyes. It's worth noting that the Glock 40 is now available in a MOS configuration to allow for the convenience of a reflex sight, which will appeal to many.
After pulling the trigger and watching a long 10mm automatic cartridge spiral through the air, nothing else went wrong with the Glock 40.
The 10mm cartridge makes a lot of noise and smoke. Unfortunately, the berm has significant bullet absorbing power.
Through the 6-inch barrel, I ran powerful Sellier & Bellot 180 grain FMJ bullets at an impressive 1328 feet per second.
The Reason Why There Is No Gun On The Planet Like A Glock
But what's more interesting is what I didn't feel: a shock of seismic magnitude. The combination of weight and polymer recoil meant that the Glock 40 was surprisingly maneuverable.
With the Gen 4 Glock, the tactile texture is easy to hold in the hand and the finger grooves fit my big guns well. A smooth extension on the bottom of the handle helped facilitate tactical reloading.
It quickly became apparent that the Glock 40 carbine's long range sight and nominal drop of 10mm round bore made this pistol ideal for long range operations.
At 50 yards, the biggest thing I consistently hit holes in the 10-ring was a shiver of anticipation.
Glock 17 Package
Even after 50 rounds I was waiting for the gunner to hit harder than he did. However, with a little steady breathing and focusing on the front sight, the long barrel Glock 40 delivered the goods exactly where I wanted them.
A series of three hunters at 25 yards convinced me that the Glock 40 was best for learning to handle the more powerful cartridges.
Like the rest of this gun, the Glock 40 has significant recoil – the better the 10mm Magnum round absorbs significant recoil.
Glock pistols enjoy one of the most attractive outlets for parts and accessories. But the 40 ball is a bit out there. Some parts like the spring link and trigger assembly are shared with the .45 ACP Glocks.
What's The Difference Between Glock Pistols?
Also, being a bit of a weird glock, some of the basics like a whiskey barrel will be a little hard to get (although I know KKM, a super glock barrel maker for the glock competition market, makes barrel threads for the 40).
The MOS slide slot on the Glock 40 Gen 4 MOS allows the shooter to attach one of the many reflex optics currently on the market.
Long distance is increased by 10mm, but still not as rare as other calibers.
Both Smith & Wesson and Ruger make 10mm revolvers. The S&W N frame platform has long been the standard mount for larger revolvers coming out of Springfield.

Ruger's 10mm offerings include the proud Redhawk and GP100 product lines — Mike wrote a hands-on review of the Ruger GP100 if you're interested in wheel guns.
The 1911 range is considerably larger, with 10mm pistols ranging from Rock Island Armament to four (or five) rifle scopes from companies like Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, etc.
Also, the Glock vs. 1911 debates are long and religious and need not be repeated here. However, if you're looking for a great 10mm 1911, look no further than the Colt Delta Elite we reviewed.
The Sig Sauer P220 is also another option. While somewhat different from the 1911 draft, the latter is an excellent contender at the midpoint level.

While EAA and some other European companies have started importing polymer molded 100 pistols, the closest competitor in this space to the Glock 40 is the Springfield XD-M 5.25″ Competition Series. Here's how they stack up:
With a 10mm range slowly coming back, the Glock 40 is a solid contender. It is well suited for someone looking to get into a 10mm pistol in the triple digit price range.
Market ubiquity and the ubiquity of parts and accessories make the Glock 40 an easy recommendation.
Glock, fandom aside, a solid contender for the 40 on merit. The polymer frame does a good job of absorbing 10mm Magnum cases. In addition, the 6″ barrel and long radius sight give this pistol a competitive edge in combat and at the range.

The Glock's MOS configuration also means you can attach your scope to it, if glass and lasers are your thing.
The only thing is, you can't easily conceal a Glock 40. But then again, I'm not sure anyone wants to waste time with a 10mm Magnum subcompact.
The Glock 40 remains a lesser known but still capable member of the Glock line. He is someone who wants to think about a 10mm Magnum pistol.
